Information visualisation
The proverbial "man in the loop" is still part of the global aeronautical system because in some situations algorithms are not trusted to respond appropriately to the available information. Consequently, the information channel from computers to humans plays a major role in the overall system safety. Still, there is very little science available to engineers for guaranteeing the reliability and efficiency of this channel. Even more surprisingly, there is no established theoretical model to describe information displays, Bertin's theory of maps being the closest thing.
We carry out research on the whole visual display chain, from graphical rendering to human perception through information representation, trying to produce theoretical models for reasoning about these, meaningful properties to be verified, and solutions for checking the properties. At the one end, this leads us
